　　BEIJING, May 18 (Xinhua) — By reporter Gao Jing: On the 18th, the Ministry of Ecology and Environment announced that it has issued a notice to comprehensively organize and carry out an in-depth inspection and remediation campaign targeting the dumping of solid waste in the Yellow River Basin for the 2023–2024 period.

　　Carrying out inspections and remediation of solid waste dumping in the Yellow River Basin is a crucial measure to address pollution at its source and improve the river’s ecological environment. Since 2021, the Ministry of Ecology and Environment has organized the “Clean Waste Campaign” in the Yellow River Basin for two consecutive years, conducting surveys and remediation of solid waste disposal along the main stem and selected tributaries. The survey covered approximately 133,000 square kilometers, identified a total of 2,049 problem sites, and resulted in the removal of 88.882 million tons of various types of solid waste. These efforts have effectively mitigated ecological and environmental risks in the Yellow River Basin.

　　From 2023 to 2024, the Ministry of Ecology and Environment will, building on the successes of the earlier “Waste Cleanup Campaign” in the Yellow River Basin, further intensify remediation efforts. It will extend the scope of inspection and cleanup to include key tributaries, major lakes and reservoirs, priority industrial parks, national nature reserves, and national scenic areas across the nine provinces and autonomous regions in the basin, covering nearly 200,000 square kilometers. Comprehensive inspections and remediation will be carried out to address the dumping of solid waste, continuously deepening and advancing the “Waste Cleanup Campaign” in the Yellow River Basin.

　　This round of the Yellow River Basin “Waste Cleanup Campaign” will further strengthen source‑level governance, compel local authorities to enhance their capacity for solid waste management, and require entities that generate or handle solid waste to reinforce their internal management systems. At the same time, it will maintain a stringent crackdown on illegal and criminal activities involving solid waste, thereby sending a strong deterrent signal and achieving both symptomatic and root‑cause solutions.
