As of June 2022, China’s internet user base reached 1.051 billion, with internet penetration rising to 74.4%; by 2021, the size of China’s digital economy had grown to RMB 45.5 trillion; in 2021, online retail sales of physical goods totaled RMB 10.8 trillion, and the value of cross-border e‑commerce imports and exports reached RMB 1.92 trillion. Guided by the white paper “Building a Community with a Shared Future in Cyberspace,” released by the State Council Information Office, these figures offer a data‑driven overview of China’s achievements in internet development over the past decade.
