    Vietnam is stepping up its imports of pesticides.

    Vietnam’s Agriculture Newspaper reported on November 3 that, according to data from the General Department of Vietnam Customs, Vietnam’s imports of pesticides and related raw materials totaled US$650 million in the first nine months of 2021, up 22.2% year-on-year compared with 2020.

     

    China is the leading supplier of pesticides and raw materials to Vietnam. From January to September, China’s exports of pesticides and raw materials to Vietnam totaled US$290 million, up 22% year on year, accounting for 45% of Vietnam’s total imports of these products. Notably, Vietnam’s imports of pesticides from India and Singapore have also risen sharply: in the first nine months of 2021, Vietnam imported US$79 million worth of pesticides and raw materials from India, a 41.9% year-on-year increase, representing 13.3% of its total pesticide imports; meanwhile, imports from Singapore amounted to US$51 million, up 16.8% year on year, also accounting for 13.3% of Vietnam’s total pesticide imports.
