　At present, major pests and diseases affecting autumn grain crops have entered a critical phase of occurrence and control. On August 12, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs convened a video conference to re‑mobilize and redeploy efforts to prevent and control these threats, urging all localities to take swift action, resolutely win this tough battle, and ensure a bountiful harvest by safeguarding grain yields from pest damage.

　　The meeting noted that autumn grain production accounts for the bulk of the year’s total, and that current field crops are well‑seeded and in good condition. Securing a bumper autumn harvest hinges on disaster prevention and mitigation, with the key lying in the effective control of major crop diseases and pests. The meeting further assessed that, given the relatively high baseline incidence of major pests and diseases and favorable meteorological conditions in the coming period, migratory and epidemic pests and diseases—including rice stem borers, fall armyworm, grass cutworms, rice blast, and potato late blight—are expected to occur at moderate to severe levels during August and September, posing a formidable challenge for prevention and control.
　　The meeting emphasized that all localities must fully recognize the critical importance of preventing and controlling major autumn pests and diseases, and earnestly implement meticulous and effective control measures. In terms of objectives, it is imperative to resolutely achieve “two guarantees” and uphold “one bottom line”: ensuring that all areas at risk of major autumn grain pests and diseases are fully protected, and preventing large-scale outbreaks; and keeping losses from major pest and disease damage within 5%. Regarding control strategies, the principle of a nationwide coordinated approach should be followed, with priority given to key regions, major pests and diseases, and critical stages in the pest‑control process. Responsibilities must be firmly assigned, organizational mobilization strengthened, and zoned management and joint prevention and control implemented. As for specific measures, monitoring and early warning systems should be enhanced, timely guidance and supervision provided, and large‑scale unified pest management and environmentally friendly control methods vigorously promoted.
