2019 Influential Figures in China’s Petroleum and Chemical Industry | Liu Changling: A Pioneer in the Development of Green Pesticides

　　Through more than two decades of practical experience, he developed the “intermediate derivatization method” for new pesticide discovery, which has earned widespread recognition both domestically and internationally. Despite research investment amounting to only 8% of that of foreign companies, he has advanced over ten candidate pesticide candidates that have secured patents in multiple countries, three of which have already been commercialized. The technology he developed has increased the success rate of developing green pesticides—characterized by stable patent protection, high safety, excellent efficacy, and low cost—by at least 16-fold, yielding significant economic, social, and ecological benefits and setting multiple industry firsts.

　　He has overcome major global challenges, such as the ineffectiveness of certain herbicides against gramineous weeds, and solved the half-century-old problem of toxicity associated with pyrimidinyl amine fungicides.

　　He is Liu Changling, a Fellow of the Chinese Chemical Society in 2019 and the Director of Research and Development at Shenyang Sinochem Agrochemical & Chemical R&D Co., Ltd.
