Recently, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) issued several notices announcing the acceptance of applications for new uses of pesticide registrations, primarily involving fluopyram, hexythiazox, methoxyfenozide, acetamiprid, flumioxazin, and ethephon.
The specific details of this new‑use application, along with relevant substance information and EPA registration status, are as follows:

01 Fluopyram
▍Material Information
Fluopyram is a fungicide developed by Bayer. Its common English name is Fluopyram; its CAS number is 658066-35-4; its chemical name is N-[2-[3-chloro-5-(trifluoromethyl)-2-pyridinyl]ethyl]-2(trifluoromethyl)benzamide, and its molecular formula is C 16 H 11 ClF 6 N 2 O, whose structural formula is shown in the figure below:

Fluopyram is a succinate dehydrogenase inhibitor that exerts its fungicidal activity by inhibiting succinate dehydrogenase in the mitochondrial respiratory chain of fungi, thereby blocking electron transport. Since 2014, it has also been approved for nematode control. Currently, it is primarily used on a wide range of crops, including nuts, fruits, berries, root and tuber crops, and legumes, as well as leafy vegetables. In addition, it can be applied to non‑agricultural settings such as Christmas tree plantations, ornamental plants, and turfgrass.
▍EPA Registration Status
The first product containing fluxapyroxad was registered as a pesticide in the United States in 2012. To date, there are a total of 20 registered products containing fluxapyroxad in the U.S. (including one product for industrial use and 19 end-use products), with the primary registrants being Bayer CropScience LLC, BASF Agricultural Solutions U.S., LLC, and Environmental Science U.S., LLC.
02 Hexythiazox

Hexythiazox is a non-systemic foliar acaricide. Its common English name is Hexythiazox; CAS number: 78587-05-0; chemical name: (4S,5S)-5-(4-chlorophenyl)-N-cyclohexyl-4-methyl-2-oxo-1,3-thiazolidine-3-carboxamide; molecular formula: C 17 H 21 ClN 2 O 2 S, whose structural formula is shown in the figure below:

Tebufenpyrad is a thiazolidinone‑type acaricide with both contact and stomach‑acting modes of action. It exhibits good penetration through plant cuticles but lacks systemic translocation. It demonstrates strong ovicidal and larvicidal activity against a wide range of phytophagous mites, particularly spider mites, and can inhibit the hatching of eggs laid by adult females. It is primarily used on various fruits, nuts, and vegetables, as well as on turfgrass and ornamental plants. Currently, in accordance with the product label requirements for tebufenpyrad, this active ingredient may be applied only once per year.
▍EPA Registration Status
The first thiamethoxam‑based product was registered as a pesticide in the United States in 1989. To date, there are a total of 30 registered products containing thiamethoxam in the U.S., including four products for agricultural use and 26 end‑use formulations. The registrants primarily include Gowan Company, LLC, Sharda USA, LLC, Atticus, LLC, and several other companies.
03 Methoxyfenozide

Methoxyfenozide is a diacylhydrazine insecticide. Its common English name is Methoxyfenozide; CAS number: 161050-58-4; chemical name: N'-tert-butyl-N'-(3,5-dimethylbenzoyl)-3-methoxy-2-methylbenzohydrazide; molecular formula: C 22 H 28N2O3 , whose structural formula is shown in the figure below:

Methoxyfenozide exhibits moderate systemic activity (absorbed through the roots but not by the foliage). Its insecticidal mode of action involves prematurely inducing ecdysis, leading to the death of target insects. This pesticide combines both stomach‑poison and contact‑kill effects and is currently registered for the control of lepidopteran pests on a variety of crops, including cotton, corn, artichokes, peanuts, soybeans, and tree nuts; it is also registered for use on ornamental plants in residential areas.
▍EPA Registration Status
The first pesticide containing methoxyfenozide was registered in the United States in 2000. To date, a total of 24 products containing methoxyfenozide are approved for use in the U.S., including six products for agricultural production and 18 end-use formulations. The registrants include major companies such as Corteva Agriscience LLC, Loveland Products, Inc., Albaugh LLC, and others.
04 Acetamiprid

Acetamiprid is a neonicotinoid insecticide developed by Nippon Soda. Its common English name is Acetamiprid; CAS number: 135410-20-7; chemical name: (E)-N1-[(6-Chloro-3-pyridinyl)methyl]-N2-cyano-N1-methylacetamidine; molecular formula: C 10 H 11 ClN 4 , whose structural formula is shown in the figure below:

Acetamiprid is a chloronicotinyl pyridine compound that exerts both contact and stomach‑toxic effects on pests. It primarily acts at the postsynaptic membrane of insect neuromuscular junctions, binding to acetylcholine receptors and causing excessive neuronal excitation, generalized convulsions, and eventual paralysis and death. Acetamiprid is characterized by strong systemic activity, low application rates, and a broad spectrum of insecticidal efficacy. Currently, it is registered for use on a variety of crops and for seed treatment, and it can also be applied in livestock facilities. In addition, acetamiprid‑based products are suitable for use in residential, public, commercial, and industrial settings.
▍EPA Registration Status
The first product containing acetamiprid was registered as a pesticide in the United States in 2002. To date, there are a total of 77 registered acetamiprid products in the U.S., including 5 products for industrial use and 72 end-use products, with registrants primarily comprising Nippon Soda Co., Ltd., Atticus, Llc, Aceto Life Sciences, L.L.C., d/b/a Actylis, and several other companies.
05 Flumioxazin

Flumioxazin is a contact‑type selective herbicide. English common name: Flumioxazin; CAS number: 103361-09-7; chemical name: 2-(7-fluoro-3-oxo-4-prop-2-ynyl-1,4-benzoxazin-6-yl)-4,5,6,7-tetrahydroisoindole-1,3-dione; molecular formula: C 19 H 15 FN 2 O 4 , whose structural formula is shown in the figure below:

Flumioxazin, a member of the N‑phenyl imide class, is a protochlorophyll oxidase (PPO) inhibitor. It can be applied pre‑emergence or post‑emergence to control certain grassy weeds, broadleaf weeds, and sedges through both contact and residual activity. It is currently registered for use on various crops, in non‑cultivated areas of farms, as well as in orchards, vineyards, ornamental nurseries, and turfgrass.
▍EPA Registration Status
The first product containing florasulam was registered as a pesticide in the United States in 2001. To date, there are a total of 112 registered florasulam‑based products in the U.S., including 12 products for agricultural use and 100 end‑use formulations, with over 30 registrants, among whom are four Chinese companies.
06 Ethephon

Ethephon is an organophosphonate plant growth regulator. Its common English name is Ethephon; CAS number: 16672-87-0; chemical name: 2-chloroethylphosphonic acid; molecular formula: C 2 H 6 ClO 3 P, whose structural formula is shown in the figure below:

Ethephon is an important plant growth regulator that precisely modulates a variety of physiological processes by releasing ethylene; it enhances ribonucleic acid synthesis in cells and promotes protein synthesis. Its primary applications include: reducing lodging in wheat and barley; removing mistletoe from ornamental plants and trees; eliminating undesirable fruits on apple, crabapple, carob, and olive trees; inhibiting the growth of specific grass species in residential and commercial lawns; and preventing tillering in Kentucky bluegrass, among others.
▍EPA Registration Status
The first ethephon product was registered as a pesticide in the United States in 1971. To date, there are a total of 55 registered ethephon products in the U.S., including 20 formulations for agricultural use and 35 for non‑agricultural applications, with registrants primarily comprising companies such as Bayer CropScience LLC, Nufarm Americas, Inc., Redeagle International LLC, and others.
