SANYA, Oct. 9 (Xinhua) — By reporter Yu Qiongyuan: At the Sixth National Forum on the Development of Agricultural Education and Training, reporters learned on the 9th that China will enhance the quality and effectiveness of agricultural education and training in four key areas.
Further strengthening the talent base for national food security. At the forum, a relevant official from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs stated that in recent years, the high‑quality farmer training program has increasingly prioritized stabilizing grain production, expanding oilseed cultivation, and ensuring supply, thereby supporting large‑scale yield increases in grain and oilseed crops and making tangible contributions to safeguarding national food security.
Further strengthen talent support in poverty-alleviation areas. According to the official, it is essential to continuously cultivate leading figures in industrial development in these regions, building a pool of professionals capable of driving income growth and prosperity among rural residents. At the same time, to meet the employment needs of those who have been lifted out of poverty, various training programs should be implemented to help them acquire skills and secure stable, long-term employment.
Further expand the pool of rural talent engaged in employment and entrepreneurship. Continuously innovate training approaches, broaden the scope of training content, and support farmers in enhancing their skills and employability, helping them secure jobs and start businesses within their counties.
Further improve the supply of talent for rural development, construction, and governance. Innovatively develop training programs tailored to various aspects of rural development, construction, and governance, strengthening farmers’ ideological and moral cultivation, promoting positive changes in rural customs, enhancing their participation in rural governance, and fostering cultural heritage preservation and community sports and fitness initiatives.
According to reports, the High-Quality Farmer Cultivation Program trained more than 800,000 farmers in 2023. The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, in collaboration with the Organization Department of the CPC Central Committee, organized training courses for leading rural talent, reaching 20,000 participants annually. Meanwhile, agricultural and rural departments launched initiatives to enhance farmers’ overall competence and literacy; in 2023, pilot programs were rolled out across nearly 8,000 administrative villages, providing free public‑interest training to over 340,000 farmers. As a result, the quality and composition of the high‑quality farmer workforce have continued to improve, rural industries have seen steady progress, and migrant workers returning to their hometowns to engage in farming and entrepreneurship are increasingly motivated.
