　　BEIJING, April 19 (Xinhua) — On the 19th, the Ministry of Emergency Management stressed the need to focus on pressing issues and promptly launch special campaigns to address fire safety concerns and conduct pre‑flood inspections and remediation of potential hazards at tailings ponds.

　　On the same day, the Ministry of Emergency Management convened a Party Committee meeting, emphasizing the need to draw broader lessons from individual incidents, conduct thorough inspections to identify and address risks and hidden dangers, and resolutely prevent and curb the occurrence of major safety accidents. The meeting noted that, in recent times, several localities have experienced a series of fires and other safety incidents—most notably the fire at Beijing’s Fengtai Changfeng Hospital and the factory‑building fire in Jinhua, Zhejiang—exposing serious shortcomings such as inadequate hazard identification and remediation, as well as the failure to fully implement responsibilities for workplace safety, thereby sounding another urgent warning.

　　The meeting emphasized that hospitals, nursing homes, schools, daycare centers, “factory‑in‑factory” facilities, entertainment venues, high‑rise buildings, and large integrated complexes must be given top priority. Focus should be placed on pressing risks such as flammable and combustible decorative materials, thermal insulation, obstruction of emergency escape routes, unauthorized hot‑work and welding operations, and risky construction practices, as well as the serious issue of minor construction incidents escalating into major accidents. To address these concerns, measures will include centralized inspections, expert consultations, and cross‑jurisdictional enforcement, with a meticulous, facility‑by‑facility review—issuing public notices for identified hazards, exposing violations, and conducting targeted interviews where necessary. Particular attention must be paid to tailings ponds, especially those located directly above populated areas, during the flood season: clearly define regulatory responsibilities, implement corrective actions to eliminate identified risks, strengthen early‑warning and response mechanisms, refine emergency plans, increase inspection frequency and enforcement力度, and, in the event of extreme weather, convene additional coordination meetings, assign dedicated personnel for continuous monitoring, and promptly take decisive evacuation and safety‑relocation measures to resolutely prevent dam failures from resulting in casualties.
