BEIJING, Dec. 15 (Xinhua) — The 24th issue of the journal Qiushi, to be published on December 16, will feature an important article by Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee, President of the People’s Republic of China, and Chairman of the Central Military Commission, entitled “Inheriting and Carrying Forward the Party’s Fine Revolutionary Traditions and Style, and Promoting the Yan’an Spirit.”
The article emphasizes that the Seventh National Congress of the Communist Party of China stands as a significant milestone in the Party’s history, marking its maturation on the political, ideological, and organizational fronts, and charting the right course and paving the way for the Party to advance from one victory to another. The historic revolutionary sites of Yan’an bear witness to the glorious journey during the Yan’an period, when our Party led the Chinese revolution and pursued the sinicization and contemporary adaptation of Marxism—truly a book that can never be fully read. We must, in light of the present day, tell the story of Yangjialing and the story of the Seventh National Congress of the CPC with clarity and conviction.
The article points out that Yan’an is the sacred ground of the Chinese revolution and the cradle of New China. From 1935 to 1948, the Party Central Committee, along with elder revolutionary leaders such as Mao Zedong, lived and fought in Yan’an for thirteen years, guiding the Chinese revolutionary cause from a low ebb to a high tide, achieving a historic turning point, and fundamentally altering China’s destiny. By joining this visit alongside the members of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, we seek to reaffirm that the new central leadership will inherit and carry forward the fine revolutionary traditions and style forged by the Party during the Yan’an period, and continue to promote the Yan’an Spirit.
The article points out that the glorious traditions and fine work style forged and carried forward during the Yan’an period—embodied in the Yan’an Spirit, which is characterized by a firm and correct political orientation, the ideological line of emancipating the mind and seeking truth from facts, the fundamental principle of serving the people wholeheartedly, and the pioneering spirit of self-reliance and hard struggle—constitute an invaluable spiritual asset of the Party and must be passed down from generation to generation.
The article points out that upholding a firm and correct political direction is the essence of the Yan’an Spirit. All Party members must adhere to the correct political course, resolutely implement the Party’s basic theory, basic line, and basic policy, and faithfully carry out the decisions and arrangements of the CPC Central Committee, thereby continuing to advance the great cause initiated by the older generation of revolutionaries. We must stand firmly on the people’s position, put the Party’s fundamental purpose into practice, follow the Party’s mass line, maintain the close ties between the Party and the people, and consciously integrate the development philosophy of putting the people at the center into all our work. We should make solid progress toward common prosperity, ensuring that the fruits of modernization benefit all the people more extensively and equitably. We must vigorously promote the spirit of self-reliance and hard struggle. No matter how affluent our material lives may become in the future, we must never lose this spirit; we must remain down-to-earth, work diligently and pragmatically, concentrate our efforts on doing our own work well, and base national and ethnic development on our own strength. We must inherit and carry forward the glorious traditions and fine conduct left by the older generation of revolutionaries and Communists, courageously advance the Party’s self-revolution, unswervingly strengthen Party governance in all respects, and always preserve the Party’s advanced nature and purity, thus ensuring that the Party remains the strong leadership core of the cause of socialism with Chinese characteristics. We must foster a fighting spirit and enhance our ability to struggle, resolutely overcome all difficulties and challenges on the road ahead, and rely on tenacious struggle to open up new horizons for the development of our cause.
The article emphasizes that the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China has set forth the major principles and policies guiding the Party and the country for the present and the period ahead, and has outlined a grand blueprint for advancing the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation through Chinese modernization. Let us embark on this new journey and set out toward our new goals and aspirations!
