    2022-09-06

China is the world’s largest producer and consumer of wheat. Over the years, wheat has accounted for 22% to 30% of the country’s total cultivated land area and 22% to 27% of its total grain‑crop acreage, with cultivation spread across all provinces, municipalities, and autonomous regions. As a result, wheat has become China’s second-largest staple crop, after rice. In 2021, China’s wheat output represented approximately 17.6% of global wheat production, making it the world’s leading wheat-producing country.
