The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs has issued a notice: it plans to phase out four highly toxic pesticides—phorate, methyl isofenphos, isocarbophos, and monocrotophos.

To the General Offices (or Departments) of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, the National Health Commission, the State Administration for Market Regulation, the National Food and Strategic Reserves Administration, and the National Forestry and Grassland Administration; to the Departments (Bureaus, Commissions) of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of all provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities directly under the central government; to the Bureau of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps; and to all relevant pesticide production and business enterprises: 　　

To ensure the quality and safety of agricultural products, the safety of humans and livestock, and the safety of the ecological environment, in accordance with the relevant provisions of the Food Safety Law of the People’s Republic of China and the Regulations on the Administration of Pesticides, and based on risk assessments and after deliberation by the National Pesticide Registration Review Committee, our Ministry proposes to… Phorate, methyl parathion, isodrin, and monocrotophos Four highly toxic pesticides are to be phased out.

　　 Effective March 1, 2022, the issuing authority has revoked the registration and production licenses for the active ingredients and formulated products of phorate, methyl isofenphos, isocarbophos, and monocrotophos, and has prohibited their production. Effective March 1, 2024, their sale and use are also prohibited.
