Meng Xiangtao, Vice Mayor of Zhucheng City, stated: “According to the preliminary investigation by the public security authorities, a group of suspects illegally rented this vacant courtyard and installed an oil tank near its eastern wall. Inside the tank, they were unlawfully storing chemical waste liquids smuggled in from other regions. Taking advantage of the dead of night, they used the tank and a clandestinely buried pipeline to secretly siphon off the waste and discharge it at a manhole cover on the west side outside the main gate. The public security authorities are currently conducting further investigations into the volume and composition of the discharged materials.”
