According to Xinhua News Agency, at its 24th session held on the afternoon of the 26th, the Standing Committee of the 13th National People’s Congress voted to appoint Tang Renjian as Minister of Agriculture and Rural Affairs.

Previously, Tang Renjian served as Deputy Secretary of the Gansu Provincial Party Committee and Governor of Gansu Province, while Han Changfu held the posts of Party Secretary and Minister of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs. Born in October 1954, Han has now reached the age of 66.
On December 2, the official website of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs announced that the CPC Central Committee had recently decided to appoint Comrade Tang Renjian as a member of the Central Rural Work Leading Group and concurrently as Director of its Office, as well as Party Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs. Meanwhile, Comrade Han Changfu will no longer serve as Deputy Head of the Central Rural Work Leading Group, Director of its Office, or Party Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs.
On December 3, the Twentieth Meeting of the Standing Committee of the 13th Gansu Provincial People’s Congress decided to accept Tang Renjian’s request to resign from the post of Governor of the Gansu Provincial People’s Government due to a change in his work assignment.
Tang Renjian was born in August 1962 in Chongqing. After graduating in 1983 from the Sichuan Institute of Finance and Economics (now Southwest University of Finance and Economics), he joined the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Husbandry and Fisheries, which was reorganized into the Ministry of Agriculture in 1988. He subsequently spent his career in the agricultural sector, holding positions such as Head of the Rural Affairs Group of the Central Financial and Economic Affairs Commission, Deputy Director of the same commission, Deputy Director of the Central Agricultural Work Office, and Deputy Head of the State Council Leading Group for Poverty Alleviation and Development.
In 2014, Tang Renjian was transferred to Guangxi, where he served as a member of the Standing Committee of the Autonomous Region Party Committee and Vice Chairman of the Regional Government. In June 2016, he returned to Beijing, assuming the posts of Deputy Head (at the ministerial level) and Director of the Office of the Central Rural Work Leading Group, as well as Deputy Director of the Office of the Central Financial and Economic Leading Group.
In March 2017, Tang Renjian was dispatched to the northwest, appointed Deputy Secretary of the Gansu Provincial Party Committee, elected Governor of Gansu Province in May, and elected a member of the 19th CPC Central Committee in October.

Tang Renjian, male, Han ethnicity, born in August 1962 in Chongqing, joined the Communist Party of China in March 1991 and began working in August 1983. He graduated from the School of Economics at Southwestern University of Finance and Economics with a major in Industrial Economics, holds an in-service postgraduate degree, a Ph.D. in Economics, and is a senior economist.
