Recently, the 2% thiamethoxam granule formulation submitted by Hubei Tianmen Spring Plant Protection Co., Ltd. has been approved for registration. Classified as low‑toxicity, it is registered for use on tobacco to control root‑knot nematodes, applied via furrow or hole application at transplanting. The recommended dosage is 500–650 grams per mu. This also marks the first thiamethoxam product approved in China for the control of tobacco root‑knot nematodes.

Previously, thiamethoxam had already been registered in China for the control of aphids on tobacco; as for nematode control, only one product—30% avermectin–thiamethoxam suspension seed treatment—has been registered, with wheat nematodes listed as the target crop and pest.
