The first field‑based standard for determining pesticide utilization rates will come into effect on November 1 this year.

Recently, according to Announcement No. 319 issued by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, the standard “Field Determination Method for Pesticide Utilization Rate—Part 1: Determination of Pesticide Deposition Utilization Rate in Field Crop Foliar Spraying—Using the Rhodamine B Indicator Method,” led by the Institute of Plant Protection of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, will come into effect on November 1, 2020.
The application of pesticides is a crucial measure for disease and pest control, directly impacting agricultural production safety, the quality and safety of agricultural products, and ecological environmental security. Pesticide utilization rate is an important indicator for assessing the level of scientific pesticide use. This agricultural industry standard specifies requirements for indicators, procedures for deploying droplet‑collection cards, field sampling, determination of deposition amounts, and data collection and calculation in field‑based methods for measuring pesticide utilization rates. Using the water‑soluble dye Allura Red as the indicator and water as the solvent for extracting the sampling medium, an environmentally friendly and rapid method for determining pesticide deposition utilization has been established, providing a standardized basis for estimating pesticide utilization rates in China’s major field crops.
The promulgation and implementation of this agricultural industry standard are of great significance for advancing the standardization of methods for determining pesticide utilization rates and of pesticide application technologies, enhancing the quality of pesticide products, accelerating the dissemination of high-efficiency application equipment and the development of specialized service organizations, and improving China’s pesticide utilization rate while supporting the country’s efforts to build a beautiful China.
