BASF’s first seed‑treatment insecticide, Baoqiao® (thiamethoxam + imidacloprid), has officially been approved for registration in China!

On July 29, BASF’s first seed‑treatment insecticide, Baoqiaoshi®, officially received registration in China. At the product launch and seed‑solution conference held on the 28th, Wu Qiang, Product Manager for seed‑treatment products in BASF’s Agricultural Solutions division, explained: “In the future, neonicotinoid insecticides are bound to become the mainstream choice for controlling underground pests, and Baoqiaoshi® is precisely formulated with two neonicotinoids—thiamethoxam and imidacloprid—combined in an optimal ratio that delivers strong synergistic effects. It demonstrates outstanding efficacy against underground pests such as the beet armyworm, grubs, and wireworms, while also promoting uniform emergence and robust seedling vigor in corn.”

Thiamethoxam is a new, highly effective, safe, and highly selective insecticide belonging to the neonicotinoid class, exhibiting contact, stomach‑poison, and systemic activity. Imidacloprid boasts a broad spectrum of action, high efficacy, low toxicity, and minimal residue; it also exhibits limited resistance development in target pests and combines contact, stomach‑poison, and systemic modes of action. Bangqiaoshi is a seed‑treatment suspension concentrate formulated with 360 g/L thiamethoxam and 240 g/L imidacloprid. By integrating the complementary strengths of these two active ingredients—broad‑spectrum pest control and robust root‑development and seedling‑protection—it delivers synergistic benefits, making it an innovative tool for managing underground pests in corn fields.

Mary Jo Hensley, Global Market Director for Seed Treatment at BASF’s Agricultural Solutions division, stated, “Thiamethoxam has earned the trust of a broad base of growers in the United States thanks to its outstanding efficacy, which makes us even more optimistic about Bunchaoshi®—a product that contains thiamethoxam. We are confident that, with its proven track record in seed protection, Bunchaoshi® will further strengthen BASF’s seed‑treatment portfolio and help safeguard high‑quality seeds.”

Jeremia Mullock, Global Head of Research and Development for Insecticide and Nematicide Seed Treatments at BASF’s Agricultural Solutions division, believes that compared with current market competitors, Baoqiangshi® delivers superior control of early-season corn pests. Coupled with its excellent crop safety profile, it will provide significant benefits to farmers.
