Valent will launch the insecticide Ampex-EZ (thiamethoxam) and the herbicide Scout (glufosinate-ammonium) in 2020.

In 2020, when purchasing products to control the corn rootworm, farmers may consider Valent’s new soil-applied insecticide, Ampex‑EZ (active ingredient: thiamethoxam). The product is currently awaiting approval from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

According to Valent, Ampex‑EZ can be applied in the furrow and is compatible with seed treatments and traits. When applied, this systemic product is translocated through the plant’s xylem, providing control of corn rootworms, grubs, corn leaf maggots, nematodes, and black cutworms. The product can be integrated into existing furrow‑application programs. It carries only a warning label and does not require specialized equipment or enclosed application systems.

In addition to its new insecticide, Valent will launch Scout, its first glufosinate‑based herbicide, during the 2020 growing season. The product is suitable for use on cotton and soybeans, providing pre‑emergence and post‑emergence control of weeds that carry LibertyLink traits or exhibit resistance to other glufosinate‑based herbicides.

The usage is as follows:

• First post-emergence application: 32 fluid ounces per acre; weed height must not exceed 3 inches.

• Second post-emergence application: 32 fluid ounces per acre, applied 21 days after the first application.

Scout will be applied in 265-gallon tanks, with a recommended rate of 1–3 pounds of AMS adjuvant per acre. According to Valent, the product is most effective when applied between two hours after sunrise and two hours before sunset.
