BEIJING, Jan. 15 (Xinhua) — By reporter Huang Yao: At the National Forestry and Grassland Work Conference held on the 15th, it was learned that China’s annual forest food production has exceeded 240 million tons, and by 2025, the total output value of the national forestry and grassland industry is expected to approach 11 trillion yuan.

　　Forests are not only reservoirs of water, wealth, and carbon; they are also vast granaries. Today, forest‑derived food has become the third most important agricultural product in China, following grain and vegetables. Nationwide, camellia oleifera cultivation covers 75 million mu, with an annual production of 1 million tons of tea oil. Bamboo shoots, ginseng, hazelnuts, camellia seeds, mushrooms, and other forest foods thriving in our expansive forests have enriched and diversified people’s “rice bags,” “vegetable baskets,” and “oil jars.”

　　According to reports, the national forestry and grassland industry directly employs more than 60 million people, with eco‑tourism welcoming nearly 3 billion visitors annually. The four pillar sectors—wood and bamboo processing, economic forests, under-forest economies, and eco‑tourism—are steadily strengthening their supporting role.

　　Going forward, the forestry and grassland authorities will earnestly implement the philosophy that “lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets,” strive to explore new pathways for converting ecological products into economic value, vigorously develop specialty industries such as woody oilseeds and under-forest economies, and actively foster emerging industries and business models.
