    The newly revised agricultural industry standard, “General Provisions for the Safe Use of Pesticides,” will come into effect on July 1.

    The national agricultural industry standard “General Principles for the Safe Use of Pesticides” (NY/T 1276-2025, replacing NY/T 1276-2007), approved and issued by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, will come into effect on July 1, 2025.

     

    This standard was jointly drafted by the National Agricultural Technology Extension Service Center, the Institute of Plant Protection of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, the Heilongjiang Provincial Plant Quarantine and Plant Protection Station, the Jiangsu Provincial Plant Protection and Plant Quarantine Station, the Liaoning Provincial Agricultural Development Service Center, and other organizations. It sets forth requirements for the safety protection and safe handling practices of pesticide users and applies to pesticide users in agricultural production. Pesticide users in other sectors may refer to this standard for implementation.

     

    Compared with NY/T 1276-2007, the newly revised standard, aside from structural adjustments and editorial changes, incorporates the following major technical modifications:

     

    1. Certain terms and definitions have been added or revised, such as spray adjuvants and pesticide packaging waste;

     

    2. The description of the “Pesticide Selection” section has been revised to include a provision stating “in cases of urgent need for the control of sudden, major outbreaks of pests, diseases, weeds, or rodent infestations”;

     

    3. The description of the “Pesticide Purchase” section has been revised, with additional information added regarding the purchase of restricted-use pesticides.

     

    4. The description of the “Pesticide Formulation” section has been revised to include additional content on safety precautions, accurate formulation, and the cleaning of pesticide packaging waste, among other related matters.

     

    5. The description of the “Pesticide Application” section has been revised to include additional information on the pre-harvest interval, types of application equipment, number of applications, application conditions, aerial spraying operations, and related topics.

     

    6. The description of the “Safety Protection” section has been revised to include the provision that “smoking, drinking, and eating are prohibited during pesticide application.”

     

    7. The description of the “Precautions After Pesticide Application” section has been revised.

     

    8. Added a section describing “Handling of Pesticide Use Incidents” and included provisions related to incident reporting.

     

    9. The description of the “Medication Record” section in “Appendix A” has been revised to include additional information such as the registration certificate number, the manufacturer and batch number, the type of adjuvant, and the method for collecting pesticide packaging waste.
