More than 57 million privately owned enterprises are registered nationwide.

BEIJING, April 21 (Xinhua) — According to data released on the 21st by the State Administration for Market Regulation, as of the end of March, the number of registered private enterprises nationwide exceeded 57 million, accounting for 92.3 percent of all enterprises. In the first quarter, 1.979 million new private enterprises were established across the country, up 7.1 percent year on year, outpacing the average growth rate of the past three years.

In the first quarter, 836,000 private enterprises in the “four new” sectors were newly established nationwide, accounting for more than 40% of all newly founded private enterprises during the same period, a year-on-year increase of 1.4%. Among them, enterprises in the internet and modern information technology services sector posted the fastest growth, at 18%. Newly established private enterprises in the “digital economy” totaled 274,000, representing 13.9% of all new private firms; within this category, the “digital product services” segment recorded the strongest expansion, nearly 2.5 times last year’s pace. As of the end of March, China’s private enterprises in the “four new” sectors numbered 22.678 million, serving as a key driver of high-quality economic development.

Private enterprises are demonstrating robust innovation. Through digital transformation, green and low-carbon transitions, and global expansion, they continue to strengthen their core competitiveness. In the first quarter, 94,000 new private firms were established in the next-generation information technology sector, 46,000 in high-end equipment manufacturing, 254,000 in artificial intelligence software development, and more than 10,000 in the silver‑economy space. Moreover, private companies are exhibiting strong dynamism across fields such as civil aviation, quantum information, and humanoid robotics.

Individual business households have demonstrated strong endogenous momentum. In the first quarter, 3.949 million new individual business households were registered nationwide, with 263,000 in the primary sector, 193,000 in the secondary sector, and 3.493 million in the tertiary sector. As of the end of March, the number of individual business households in the tertiary sector reached 111 million, accounting for nearly 90 percent of the total.

Targeted support tailored to the classification and typology of individual business households has yielded significant results. As of the end of the first quarter, local authorities had completed typological assessments, identifying 64.382 million “survival‑type” individual business households, accounting for 83.1%; 10.041 million “growth‑type” households, or 13%; and 3.042 million “development‑type” households, representing 3.9%. Nationwide, 142,000 individual business households have been recognized as “renowned, specialized, high‑quality, and innovative.”
