    The National Agricultural Technology Center convened an online consultation meeting on the 2022 national trends in the occurrence of major crop diseases and pests.

    On December 8–9, the National Agricultural Technology Extension Center convened a national online consultation meeting on the forecast of major crop pest and disease trends for 2022. The meeting reviewed the characteristics of major crop pest and disease outbreaks in 2021, discussed the projected trends for 2022, and outlined key priorities for monitoring and early warning activities in the coming year.
    Based on a comprehensive analysis of pre-winter pest and disease populations, host crops, meteorological conditions, and other influencing factors, the meeting forecasts that in 2022… Wheat The situation regarding major crop pests and diseases—such as Fusarium head blight, aphids, the fall armyworm, rice “two‑migration” pests, stem borers, and sheath blight—is grave.
    The meeting emphasized that the national monitoring and forecasting system must earnestly implement General Secretary Xi Jinping’s instructions to “strengthen and refine the biosecurity risk monitoring and early‑warning network, improve the monitoring and early‑warning framework, prioritize the development of grassroots monitoring stations, and enhance end‑point detection capabilities.” It also called for vigorous promotion of the Measures for the Administration of Crop Disease and Pest Monitoring and Forecasting, clarifying the functional positioning of monitoring and forecasting, optimizing methods for surveying crop diseases and pests, bolstering the construction of regional monitoring stations and field monitoring sites, advancing the deployment of specialized, intelligent monitoring tools and predictive models, ensuring automated collection of pest and disease data and seamless integration with information systems, and upgrading monitoring and forecasting capabilities. All these efforts are intended to make new contributions to the scientific and effective control of plant pests and diseases and to safeguard national food security.
    More than 200 participants, including heads of plant protection agencies, section chiefs, and technical specialists from all 31 provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities directly under the central government, attended the meeting at sub-venues. Wang Fuxiang, Deputy Director of the National Agricultural Technology Extension Center, and Wang Jianqiang, Director of the Plant Protection and Plant Quarantine Division of the Department of Crop Production Management of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, attended the meeting and delivered remarks. Academician Kang Zhensheng of Northwest A&F University, along with experts from the Institute of Plant Protection of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Nanjing Agricultural University, the Institute of Plant Protection of the Hebei Academy of Agricultural Sciences, the National Meteorological Center, and the Plant Protection Station of the Sichuan Provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, presented reports on… Wheat stripe rust, fall armyworm, brown planthopper, Corn Specialized reports on southern rust, rice blast, insect‑feeding monitoring and forecasting techniques, and climate trend predictions.
