The 2021 National Conference on the Forecast of Major Corn Pests and Diseases and Mid-to-Late Rice Pests and Diseases was held in Harbin.

　　First‑level Inspector Sun Wenzhi, on behalf of the Heilongjiang Provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, extended a warm welcome to the leaders, experts, and delegates from all provinces attending the conference. He also expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs and the National Agricultural Technology Extension Center for their longstanding support and assistance to our province’s agricultural sector, particularly in plant protection and pest‑monitoring and forecasting.
　　In his address, Deputy Director Wang Fuxiang commended the pest‑monitoring and forecasting efforts of all provinces in the first half of the year, emphasizing that the bumper summer grain harvest would not have been possible without the contributions of scientific monitoring and forecasting. He urged local authorities to further strengthen surveillance and early warning systems, gain a comprehensive understanding of disease and pest dynamics, and ensure robust safeguards for this year’s autumn grain production. He also encouraged all stakeholders to maintain their momentum, uphold the spirit of “extraordinary resilience,” “unyielding combativeness,” and “selfless dedication” that has long characterized pest‑monitoring and forecasting work, and to spare no effort in securing a bountiful autumn harvest. Senior Researcher Wang Jianqiang outlined the next steps, focusing on streamlining and optimizing monitoring and forecasting operations, advancing the construction of plant protection capacity‑building projects, and strengthening the disease‑and‑pest‑monitoring system.
　　At the conference, the five provinces of Heilongjiang, Yunnan, Jiangsu, Hunan, and Hebei shared their experiences in pest and disease monitoring and forecasting. Song Xiandong, director of the Heilongjiang Provincial Plant Quarantine and Plant Protection Station, presented a report on the development of our province’s online monitoring network for plant diseases and pests, which received high praise from the attending leaders, experts, and delegates.
