The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, together with two other ministries, has jointly issued five food safety standards, including the “Maximum Residue Limits for Pesticides in Food.”

In March 2021, the National Health Commission, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, and the State Administration for Market Regulation jointly issued Announcement No. 4 of 2021, the details of which are as follows:

In accordance with the provisions of the Food Safety Law of the People’s Republic of China, and following review and approval by the National Food Safety Standard Review Committee, the following five national food safety standards are hereby promulgated, including “National Food Safety Standard: Maximum Residue Limits for Pesticides in Foods” (GB 2763-2021, replacing GB 2763-2019). Their respective numbers and titles are as follows:

GB 2763-2021 National Food Safety Standard: Maximum Residue Limits for Pesticides in Foods;

GB 23200.118-2021 National Food Safety Standard — Determination of Monocyanamide Residues in Plant-Derived Foods — Liquid Chromatography–Tandem Mass Spectrometry Method;

GB 23200.119-2021 National Food Safety Standard — Determination of Carbamate Pesticide Residues in Plant-Derived Foods — Gas Chromatographic Method;

GB 23200.120-2021 National Food Safety Standard — Determination of Betalain Residues in Plant-Derived Foods — Liquid Chromatography–Tandem Mass Spectrometry Method;

GB 23200.121-2021 National Food Safety Standard: Determination of Residues of 331 Pesticides and Their Metabolites in Plant-Derived Foods—Liquid Chromatography–Tandem Mass Spectrometry Method.

The above standards shall enter into force six months from the date of their promulgation.
