The second generation of the cotton bollworm has entered its peak outbreak period; be on alert for damage to a variety of crops.

According to monitoring by the National Pest and Disease Forecasting Regional Stations, since mid-June, adult cotton bollworms of the first generation have entered their peak emergence period. Trap catches in the Huanghuai, North China, and Northwest regions have been relatively high. Favorable meteorological conditions are conducive to the occurrence of the second-generation cotton bollworm in northern areas. It is forecast that this year, the second generation will cause moderate to severe damage across much of northern China on crops such as maize, peanuts, soybeans, and vegetables, with a clear trend toward increased severity in North China and the Northwest. In Bt cotton fields across cotton-growing regions, infestation is expected to be relatively mild. The total area affected in cotton fields is estimated at approximately 10 million mu, while the area affected in other crop fields is projected at 30 million mu.
