The competition consisted of three rounds: 1. Basic Questions (assessing the participating teams’ fundamental proficiency in spoken Mandarin) Each group draws a set of mandatory questions, which are divided into word groups and short passages, and are read aloud by the group members in turn. 2. I’ll say it—guess what (assesses the contestants’ communication and expression skills in Standard Mandarin) In each group, one member is responsible for describing the words, while another tries to guess them—this is also the most popular segment of the competition. Teams fully showcase their wit and creativity, and the atmosphere is filled with laughter. 3. Fun Local Dialects (Explaining Shijiazhuang’s “hometown dialect” and highlighting the benefits of employees speaking Mandarin) The host provides 10. Form groups to present their “hometown dialects” in a simulated scenario, with each team competing to answer questions and explain the original meaning of the dialect terms in standard Mandarin.
