    The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs recently announced that China has launched scientific observation initiatives in areas such as crop genetic resources, soil quality, plant protection, and animal disease prevention, and has now preliminarily established a national agricultural science observation and monitoring network.

    National agricultural scientific observation efforts encompass long-term, systematic monitoring of key agricultural production factors—such as soil, water, fertilizers, and meteorological conditions—providing data support for advancing agricultural innovation and serving as a basis for early warning of agricultural disasters. For example, this year, leveraging field observation stations across the country, a three-dimensional surveillance system was deployed to track the invasive fall armyworm, enabling rapid elucidation of its migratory patterns and offering robust technical support for its control. According to reports, since launching its program of fundamental, long-term agricultural science and technology in 2017, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs has established a pyramidal observation and monitoring network: 11 data centers at the apex, 456 observation and experimental stations forming the backbone, and more than 40,000 nationally controlled ecological and environmental monitoring sites constituting the base, thereby creating an integrated system that combines experimental observations with fixed-point monitoring.
    Yu Xinrong, Vice Minister of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, stated that more than 40,000 nationally designated monitoring sites for agricultural soil environmental quality have been strategically established across all 31 provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities directly under the central government, covering all major grain-producing counties and the principal soil types. These sites conduct monitoring of production‑site environmental conditions, nitrogen and phosphorus losses, and residual agricultural film, thereby enhancing the capacity and sophistication of monitoring and early warning systems.
