Japan has strengthened monitoring and inspection of thiamethoxam residues in Chinese-produced scallions.

On September 24, Japan’s Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare issued Notification No. 0924‑1, strengthening monitoring and inspection of thiamethoxam residues in Chinese-produced scallions.
Based on Monitoring Notice No. 4 (Final Amendment: No. 1, issued on July 12, 2019), released on March 29, 2019, during inspections of Chinese-produced scallions, violations of the Food Sanitation Law regarding pesticide residues were identified. Accordingly, the frequency of monitoring for thiamethoxam residues in scallions has been increased to 30%. The specific details are as follows:
