Neonicotinoid insecticides are agonists of nicotinic acetylcholine receptors; they exert their effects by disrupting synaptic transmission in the insect central nervous system. These insecticides exhibit broad-spectrum activity, high efficacy, and excellent systemic properties, and can typically be applied via foliar sprays, seed treatments, or soil applications. They are primarily used to control pests such as whiteflies, leafhoppers, leafhoppers, aphids, psyllids, thrips, leaf beetles, mirids, scale insects, leaf miners, grubs, mole crickets, locusts, longhorn beetles, termites, red imported fire ants, cockroaches, mosquitoes, flies, and nematodes. Article 34 of the Regulations on the Administration of Pesticides stipulates: “Pesticide users shall strictly follow the instructions indicated on the pesticide label.”
