      Experimental Analysis of the Control of Cherry Spider Mites Using Spirodiclofen and Pyridaben
      Results of the laboratory bioassay indicated that spirodiclofen exhibits high efficacy against eggs and nymphs of the cherry red spider mite, with LC50 values of 0.98 a.i. mg/L and 25.91 a.i. mg/L, respectively. Pyridaben demonstrated good activity against adult cherry red spider mites, with an LC50 of 43.56 a.i. mg/L. The safety assessment revealed that both the 240 g/L spirodiclofen suspension concentrate and the 15% pyridaben emulsifiable concentrate are safe for cherry trees at their recommended field application rates, with a safety margin of 400%. Field efficacy trials further showed that, at their respective recommended field doses, the 240 g/L spirodiclofen suspension concentrate and the 15% pyridaben emulsifiable concentrate provide excellent control, achieving approximately 90% control and exhibiting favorable residual activity.
      Researchers have indicated that a 240 g/L spirotetramat suspension concentrate and a 15% pyridaben emulsifiable concentrate can serve as safe and effective formulations for controlling cherry red spider mites. Based on the severity of infestation, it is recommended to apply the 240 g/L spirotetramat suspension at a dilution of 4,000–6,000 times and the 15% pyridaben emulsifiable concentrate at a dilution of 1,500–2,500 times.
      As of the end of 2018, China had not yet approved any insecticide or acaricide products for use on cherries. The only fungicide authorized was an 80% sulfur wettable powder produced by Shouguang Xinlong Bioengineering Co., Ltd., intended for the control of cherry brown spot; the recommended application rate is a 1,000–2,000-fold dilution.
