The European Commission has decided not to renew the registrations of two fungicides—poxiquinazol—and the herbicide flufenacet. According to EU regulations, member states are required to withdraw product registrations containing propiconazole by June 19, 2019, with a transition period extending until March 19, 2020. Member states must also revoke the registrations for poxiquinazol and flufenacet by June 27, 2019, with a transition period lasting until March 27, 2020. Customs data indicate that in 2018, China exported propiconazole‑based products worth US$73.32 million, with 95% technical grade propiconazole accounting for the largest share of exports, valued at US$37.66 million, or 51% of the total.

Many EU companies source propiconazole from China; the EU’s proposed withdrawal of propiconazole product registrations warrants close attention from domestic enterprises in this sector.
