Pinoxaden
Developed by Syngenta, it is a post-emergence systemic herbicide that was launched in 2006 and is registered and marketed in numerous countries worldwide. Global sales reached US$202 million in 2009, US$300 million in 2011, and US$400 million in 2013.

Mode of action and spectrum of activity: An inhibitor of fatty acid synthesis, it suppresses the activity of acetyl‑CoA carboxylase (ACCase). It is a selective post‑emergence systemic herbicide; symptoms of phytotoxicity appear 1–3 weeks after application, leading to rapid necrosis of meristematic tissues. Tefuryltrione
It was launched in Japan in 2008. In 2013, the global sales of furoxone amounted to US$25 million; although sales in 2014 remained below US$30 million, its compound annual growth rate from 2009 to 2014 reached as high as 20.1%.
China compound patent expiration date: September 9, 2019.
Mode of action and spectrum: A systemic herbicide absorbed by the roots, stem bases, and leaves. It is an inhibitor of 4‑hydroxyphenylpyruvate dioxygenase (HPPD), ultimately blocking carotenoid biosynthesis. Primarily used in rice fields, it controls both annual and perennial broadleaf weeds and sedges both pre‑emergence and post‑emergence, with particularly effective control of weeds resistant to sulfonylurea herbicides.
Registered technical-grade product: 97% Furasulfuron‑sodium technical grade (Bayer AG).
Registered formulated product: 27% Fluroxypyr–Furanone Suspending Concentrate (9% + 18%) (Bayer AG).
Tembotrione
The HPPD-inhibitor herbicide developed by Bayer was launched in 2008, reached US$120 million in sales by 2011, and grew to US$210 million by 2013. Its global market covers 24 countries, including the United States, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, and others.
China compound patent expiration date: October 7, 2019.
Mode of action and spectrum of activity: This product is a hydroxyphenylpyruvate dioxygenase (HPPD) inhibitor, which disrupts carotenoid biosynthesis, leading to chlorosis and yellowing in weeds, resulting in plant death within two weeks. It is a post-emergence foliar herbicide suitable for weed control. Corn It exhibits excellent control efficacy against gramineous and broadleaf weeds, such as purpleweed, amaranth, wild licorice, buckwheat, alfalfa, and corn.
China registration status: No registrations currently available. However, several companies are actively pursuing registration for both the active ingredient and formulated products.
Flubendiamide
A diamide-class insecticide discovered by a Japanese corporation in 1998 and jointly developed with Bayer in 2001.
China compound patent expiration date: November 29, 2019.
Mode of action and spectrum of activity: A novel phthalimide‑type insecticide that activates intracellular calcium‑release channels on ryanodine receptors, leading to uncontrolled release of stored calcium. It exhibits exceptionally strong efficacy against larvae, limited efficacy against adults, and no ovicidal activity. After penetrating the plant, it shows modest systemic translocation via the xylem and is resistant to wash‑off by rain. Primarily used for the control of lepidopteran pests, such as the beet armyworm and the rice leafroller.
Note: This product is already approved for use on rice.

Fluopicolide
In 2005, Bayer registered fluxapyroxad in China, the United Kingdom, South Korea, and other markets; it was officially launched in 2006. By 2011, sales had risen to US$45 million, and by 2012, they reached US$60 million, with a compound annual growth rate of 64.4% from 2007 to 2012.
China compound patent expiration date: February 16, 2019.
Mode of action and spectrum: It induces the redistribution of sterols from the cell membrane into the cytoplasm, thereby disrupting the stability of the cell membranes of ascomycetes and oomycetes and leading to pathogen death. As a protective fungicide, it is translocated within the xylem, inhibiting the release of oomycete zoospores and the germination of sporangia, while also suppressing spore production and hyphal expansion in plant tissues. It can effectively control downy mildew and blight on cucurbit vegetables, late blight and blight on solanaceous vegetables, downy mildew on leafy vegetables, as well as various seedling-stage blights and damping-off diseases in a wide range of vegetable crops.
