BEIJING, Dec. 22 (Xinhua) — The Ministry of Ecology and Environment announced on the 22nd that the fifth batch of the third round of central ecological and environmental inspection has fully completed its on-site phase.
With the approval of the CPC Central Committee and the State Council, the fifth batch of the third round—comprising 10 central ecological and environmental inspection teams—successively deployed from November 16 to 19 to Beijing, Tianjin, and Hebei, as well as to five central enterprises: China Huadian Corporation, China National Energy Investment Group Co., Ltd., Ansteel Group Co., Ltd., China Baowu Steel Group Co., Ltd., and China National Coal Group Corporation. Concurrently, special inspections on the ecological and environmental protection of the Grand Canal were carried out in eight provinces and municipalities—Beijing, Tianjin, Hebei, Shandong, Henan, Anhui, Jiangsu, and Zhejiang. The on-site phase of these inspections has now been fully completed.
As of December 19, the eight routine inspection teams had received a total of 9,879 public complaints via phone and mail, of which 7,365 were deemed valid. After sorting and consolidating duplicate reports, a cumulative total of 5,122 cases had been forwarded to the entities under inspection. Of these, 3,222 have been concluded or partially concluded.
Each inspection team has remained resolute and tackled tough issues head-on, going deep into the front lines and on-site to identify a number of pressing ecological and environmental problems. They have verified cases of inaction, sluggish action, lack of accountability, unwillingness to confront difficult challenges, and even perfunctory responses and falsification. They firmly oppose using environmental protection as a pretext for one-size-fits-all measures, the overgeneralization and simplification of accountability, and substituting accountability for effective remediation.
Relevant provinces and municipalities, as well as central enterprises, have attached great importance to the central ecological and environmental protection inspection work and have vigorously promoted the implementation of corrective measures. In addressing public complaints and petitions, they have not only conducted thorough investigations and resolutely carried out rectifications but also adopted a pragmatic, case-by-case approach, ensuring precision, scientific rigor, and compliance with the law.
