BEIJING, Sept. 14 (Xinhua) — By reporter Gu Yiping: The peak summer grain procurement campaign of 2025 is now in its final stages. According to the latest statistics from the National Food and Strategic Reserves Administration, grain operators across the country have collectively purchased more than 100 million tons of wheat, with the overall procurement process proceeding smoothly.

Luo Shouquan, Director-General of the Grain Reserve Department of the National Food and Strategic Reserves Administration, stated that this year’s wheat procurement is characterized by three key features.

Procurement is progressing rapidly. This year, wheat entered the market earlier, with peak-season purchasing beginning about a week ahead of schedule. Since the start of the procurement campaign, farmers have been eager to sell their grain, with most opting for immediate sale upon delivery, resulting in a pace that outstrips the same period last year. To date, all types of grain‑handling entities have cumulatively purchased 100.16 million tonnes of wheat.

The scope of market support is broad. Relevant state departments have successively activated the minimum purchase price implementation plan in Henan, Anhui, Hebei, Jiangsu, Shandong, and other provinces. The Sinograin Group has rigorously enforced the procurement policy, promptly established additional purchasing stations, strengthened the provision of personnel, equipment, and other resources, and continuously improved on-site service standards. To date, a cumulative total of 13 million tons of wheat has been purchased at the minimum price, firmly safeguarding farmers’ right to sell their grain.

Market conditions remain stable. Supported by the minimum purchase price policy, grain-processing, trading, and reserve‑management enterprises have been conducting orderly buying and selling, with wheat prices generally steady and a clear premium for high‑quality grades. As the Mid-Autumn and National Day holidays approach, flour consumption is set to enter its traditional peak season, further boosting activity in the wheat market.

Going forward, the National Food and Strategic Reserves Administration will continue to closely monitor the progress of summer grain procurement, strengthen market monitoring and early warning systems, rigorously ensure the implementation of regulatory measures, and make every effort to keep grain prices at an appropriate level, thereby guaranteeing a successful conclusion to the peak summer grain purchasing season.
