Recently, at the “2018 High-Level Forum on Big Data Intelligence and Knowledge Services and the Launch Event for Agricultural, Forestry, and Fisheries Knowledge Service Products” held in Qingdao, Shandong Province, China’s first big-data–based professional knowledge service system for agriculture was officially unveiled to the public. By simply opening their smartphones, following the “Agricultural Knowledge Base” WeChat official account, and entering their query, agricultural researchers can promptly receive precise answers.
With the advent of the big data and intelligent era, leveraging data for innovation and data‑driven decision‑making has increasingly become the new norm and paradigm in scientific research and management. To robustly support the development of high‑end national think tanks and engineering science and technology innovation, the Chinese Academy of Engineering launched the “China Engineering Science and Technology Knowledge Center” project in 2012. In 2013, the Agricultural Subcenter of the China Engineering Science and Technology Knowledge Center officially commenced construction, with the Institute of Agricultural Information of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences entrusted with its implementation.
As the project leader, Researcher Zhao Ruixue of the Institute of Agricultural Information, Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, told reporters that the system has established a big-data‑driven intelligent agricultural knowledge‑search engine and specialized, finely granular knowledge‑service portals tailored to various agricultural disciplines, providing agricultural scientists, policy makers, and agribusinesses with fast, convenient, precise, and intelligent knowledge‑access services.
Mei Xurong, Vice President of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, pointed out that the system provides a one-stop, multi-device knowledge search and access service, enabling researchers to stay abreast of cutting-edge developments in their fields at any time, thereby helping to shorten the research cycle.
It is reported that, at the “2018 High-Level Forum on Big Data Intelligence and Knowledge Services” held that day, the National Agricultural Science and Technology Innovation Alliance’s institutional research output analysis system was also officially unveiled to the public for the first time. Also launched concurrently were knowledge service systems for forestry and fisheries.
