On June 24, the 2023 National Supreme Science and Technology Award was announced in Beijing, with Academician Li Deren and Academician Xue Qikun receiving this prestigious honor in China’s science and technology community.
Li Deren is a renowned scholar in photogrammetry and remote sensing, who has long been committed to advancing China’s capabilities in surveying, mapping, and Earth observation via remote sensing. He has mastered the core technologies for global high-precision positioning and mapping using satellite remote sensing, resolving a series of challenging problems in the high‑accuracy processing of remote‑sensing imagery. Leading his team, he developed fully automated, high‑precision airborne and ground‑based measurement systems, making outstanding contributions to the establishment of China’s high‑accuracy, high‑resolution Earth observation infrastructure.
Xue Qikun is a renowned scientist in the field of condensed matter physics, having achieved numerous groundbreaking scientific breakthroughs. He led his team to experimentally observe the quantum anomalous Hall effect for the first time, generating significant academic impact worldwide; furthermore, he discovered interface‑enhanced high‑temperature superconductivity in heterostructure systems, thereby opening up an entirely new research frontier in the international high‑temperature superconductivity community.
