According to the Ministry of Finance’s website, the ministry recently allocated 1.416 billion yuan in agricultural disaster relief funds to support pest and disease control efforts nationwide, thereby laying a solid foundation for a bumper grain harvest this year.
The Ministry of Finance stated that since the winter and spring of 2023, major grain-producing regions in China have experienced above‑average rainfall and high field humidity. With recent temperature increases, the proliferation of pests and diseases has accelerated markedly. In the face of this challenging pest and disease situation, seizing the current critical window for control, strengthening field management, expediting integrated pest management, and tightening the “prevention and control network” are essential to ensuring stable grain production throughout the year.
To implement the work arrangements of the CPC Central Committee and the State Council, firmly seize the initiative in disaster prevention and ensuring a bumper harvest, and effectively mitigate the impact of pests and diseases on wheat, rice, corn, and other crops, the Ministry of Finance, in coordination with the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, recently allocated 1.416 billion yuan from the central government’s agricultural production disaster prevention and relief fund. This funding will support 30 provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities directly under the central government—including Heilongjiang, Jiangsu, Anhui, Shandong, and Henan—as well as the Beidahuang Agricultural Reclamation Group, in accelerating efforts to control pests and diseases, particularly in grain-producing areas. Priority assistance will be provided for local procurement of pesticides, equipment, and related supplies, as well as for integrated pest management services. The funds will also promptly guide localities to strengthen monitoring and early warning systems, adopt effective measures, and carry out targeted control of pests and diseases affecting wheat, rice, and corn, along with locusts and red imported fire ants in agricultural regions, thereby reducing the damage caused by major crop pests and diseases and providing robust support for securing a bountiful grain harvest for the year.
