China’s first-ever insecticides for Hami melons—chlorpyrifos and acetamiprid.

Recently, the 28% cypermethrin–acetamiprid wettable powder product of Shaanxi Shangge Zhi Lu Biological Science Co., Ltd. has been approved for expanded registration.

The newly registered crop and target pest are the melon whitefly on Hami melons. It is recommended to apply the product at a rate of 30–50 grams per mu, diluted in 45–50 kilograms of water per mu, or adjust the dilution ratio based on field conditions, and to spray evenly once. The maximum number of applications per season is one, with a safety interval of 7 days. This marks the first registration of acetamiprid and cypermethrin on Hami melons in China, and also represents the first insecticide product ever registered for use on this crop in the country. Previously, the product was registered for use on cabbage against the striped flea beetle and on chayote against the thrips.

Previously, there were five pesticide products registered for use on Hami melons in China, all of which are fungicides: a 50% fluopyram‑water dispersible granule from Shandong United Pesticide Industry Co., Ltd.; a 200 million spores per gram Trichoderma water dispersible granule from Yunnan Xingyao Biological Products Co., Ltd., used to control downy mildew; a 50% sulfur suspension concentrate from Hebei Shuangji Chemical Co., Ltd., used to control powdery mildew; a 24% guanidine–trioctylphenyl sulfonate–pyraclostrobin wettable powder from Shaanxi Shangge Zhi Lu Biological Science Co., Ltd., used to control vine decline; and a 30% difenoconazole–azoxystrobin suspension concentrate from the U.S. company Syngenta, used to control anthracnose. Additionally, the 4% tetraconazole emulsifiable concentrate from the Italian company Isagro was initially registered under the temporary registration phase for controlling powdery mildew on Hami melons, but after transitioning to formal registration, its target crop was changed to powdery mildew on sweet melons.

Recently, five 70% acetamiprid water-dispersible granule products—produced by Shandong Lüshi Pesticide Co., Ltd., Lianyungang Liben Crop Science Co., Ltd., Shanghai Yuelian Biotechnology Co., Ltd., Shaanxi Thompson Biotechnology Co., Ltd., and North China Pharmaceutical Group Ainuo Co., Ltd.—have simultaneously received approval for expanded registration. The newly registered crops and target pests are melon aphids. It is recommended to apply the product at a rate of 2.5–3.5 grams per mu, diluted in 30–45 kilograms of water per mu, during the early peak emergence of aphid nymphs, with a single uniform spray application. The maximum number of applications per season is one, and the pre-harvest interval is 7 days. This marks the first-ever registration of acetamiprid for use on melons in China.

Previously, one flonicamid product and 20 lambda‑cyhalothrin products were approved in China in December 2022 and June 2023, respectively, for expanded use on melon to control aphids.
