Recently, Albaugh disclosed to AgroPages that it will launch the soybean insecticide Afiado (acetamiprid + bifenthrin) in Brazil. This innovative solution demonstrates remarkable efficacy in controlling soybean stink bugs, a pest that has long been difficult to manage throughout the entire growing season.

Albaugh stated that the product delivers a strong knockdown effect and long-lasting residual activity, does not disrupt the populations of mites or other natural enemies of stink bugs, and effectively controls whiteflies.

Afiado works through contact, ingestion, and tarsal contact (by walking on treated plants after spraying). Compared with products on the market that contain the same active ingredient, it features a new formulation— an aqueous solution—that meets farmers’ expectations, offering a more modern approach that is easier to dose, handle, and apply. According to Albaugh, this solution eliminates physicochemical incompatibility issues, is odorless, and streamlines handling and logistics.

Stink bugs are among the most significant potential pests threatening oilseed crops. As silent insects, they require monitoring from the very start of the growing season. Once an infestation occurs—particularly in soybean pods—the seeds fail to develop properly, leading to yield losses that can exceed 30%.

As part of the multi‑pronged effort to launch Afiado insecticide, Albaugh has disclosed information on the green stink bug, a pest that is difficult to control in oilseed crops. Piezodorus guildini ) and the brown stink bug ( Euchistus heros ) of the relevant research findings. The trial included evaluations conducted 1 to 10 days after application of Afiado and other insecticides, with sampling intervals at 4 and 7 days post‑application. The results showed that, for control of the green stink bug, Afiado achieved a control efficacy of 70% to 87.5%, whereas the reference product reached a maximum efficacy of 85%; for the brown marmorated stink bug, Afiado demonstrated a control efficacy of 68% to 80%, compared with 75% for the reference product.

Albaugh stated that the launch of Afiado addresses producers’ strategic needs, and when used in combination with the company’s other insecticide technology, Krypto (methomyl + bifenthrin), it significantly enhances oilseed growers’ ability to manage stink bugs and caterpillars.
