　　BEIJING, May 28 (Xinhua) — “On Achieving Scientific and Technological Self-Reliance and Strength,” a collection of writings by Comrade Xi Jinping edited by the Party History and Literature Research Institute of the CPC Central Committee, has recently been published by the Central Literature Publishing House and is now available nationwide.

　　This thematic collection brings together 50 important writings by Comrade Xi Jinping on the self-reliance and self-strengthening of science and technology, some of which are being made public for the first time.

　　Achieving scientific and technological self-reliance and strength is the cornerstone of national prosperity and a vital pillar of national security. Since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, the Party Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping at its core has attached great importance to scientific and technological innovation, steadfastly regarding innovation as the primary driving force for development, placing it at the very heart of the country’s overall development agenda, and comprehensively planning and advancing this work. Efforts to accelerate scientific and technological self-reliance and strength have been stepped up; basic research and original innovation have been continuously strengthened; breakthroughs have been made in several critical core technologies; strategic emerging industries have grown robustly; and major innovative achievements have emerged one after another. As a result, China’s science and technology sector has attained historic accomplishments and undergone historic transformations, enabling the country to join the ranks of innovative nations. Comrade Xi Jinping has put forward a series of important expositions on advancing scientific and technological self-reliance and strength. Grounded in the overarching strategic vision of the Party and the state, and informed by global trends and the currents of our times, these remarks profoundly underscore the pivotal role of scientific and technological innovation in human progress. They systematically set out the strategic goals, key tasks, major initiatives, and fundamental requirements for advancing China’s scientific and technological innovation, while introducing a host of new ideas, perspectives, propositions, and demands. These contributions are of paramount guiding significance for us as we deepen the implementation of the strategies of invigorating the country through science and education, strengthening the country through talent, and driving development through innovation; improve the national innovation system; accelerate the building of a science and technology powerhouse; hasten the realization of high-level scientific and technological self-reliance and strength; speed up the establishment of a new development paradigm; vigorously promote high-quality development; and strive to build a modern socialist country in all respects, thus advancing the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation through Chinese-style modernization.
